Instructional Support Services

The Instructional Support Services (ISS) Office collaborates with the Educational Services Division to provide support and services to school sites to ensure alignment with the district’s LEA (Local Educational Agency) Plan and to maintain compliance with state and federal No Child Left Behind (NCLB) requirements.

The ISS Office also facilitates the following:

• Title I Public School Choice
• Supplemental Educational Services
• Services for Non-public schools
• State and federal programs
• Professional Development
• Child Development and Preschools

Students who attend Title I schools that have been identified as Program Improvement by the California Department of Education are eligible to participate in the Public School Choice and Supplemental Educational Services programs through the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB).

According to the California Department of Education, Title I schools that have not met their Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for two consecutive years are identified as Program Improvement. Students who attend Title I Program Improvement schools in Year 2 or more are eligible to receive:

• Supplemental Educational Services (i.e., free tutoring and enrichment programs) that are aligned to the California state standards

• Priority is given to low achieving students from low socioeconomic backgrounds

• Informational meetings are presented at each Program Improvement school in Year 2 or more in the fall of each school year to assist parents with the application process
