Superintendent’s Statement

Turning Our Attention to Elementary Fine and Performing Arts

As the activities move along for the SOAP (Save Our Athletic Programs) Committee, it is time to turn our attention to another need in our District: Saving the Elementary Fine and Performing Arts Specialists (Art and Music). Some of our wonderful elementary music specialists are working with a group of parents interested in fundraising for the preservation of these positions and the program. There will be information coming to your school sites about the time and place of the initial meeting. In the meantime, many of you have expressed concern that, on the donation page located on our District website, Music and Art appear under the athletic fundraising banner. You have asked that this be separated so that people wishing to donate to Fine Arts are clear that the funds will be used for the elementary fine and performing arts programs. When you visit the donation pages, you will notice that we have done just that.

As a parent of a musician myself, I understand and value the fine and performing arts and I am hopeful that we can all work together to preserve programs that make our district so special. Please join our teachers and parents as they work to save that which is so important to our children during these tough economic times. By turning to each other we can work on behalf of all of our students.
